Coracles of the World by Sir Peter Badge President of the Coracle Society Available from all bookshops The book explains - and illustrates - the difference between coracles on rivers in Wales and England, looks at the Scottish and Irish versions of the craft, and then at the coracles of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia - especially at Vietnam, the only place in the world where coracles are thriving. "I owe a substantial debt of gratitude to Conwy Richards, who has provided me with a bottomless pool of information, without which this book would be the poorer". Peter Badge - Author 'No one is better qualified to write on this subject than Sir Peter Badge. Not only has he an unsurpassed knowledge of coracles and related craft throughout the world, but he is also an experienced and highly skilled coracle maker and handler. He has also been a tireless campaigner on behalf of the rights of the few remaining Welsh coracle-fishermen to continue to practise their ancient craft'. John Williams-Davies, Director, Musuem of Welsh Life, St Eagan's Published by: Gwasg Carreg Gwalch www.carreg-gwalch.com ISBN: 978-1-84527-255-5 Price £6.95 |

River Stour Hide Coracles for Sale by Quentin Page - A Unique Gift... Contact us for availablity The River Stour Coracle is designed primarily for fishing with nets and riding to anchor for fly fishing and is constructed to be safe and very stable, as well as fast for making way against wind, the seat is wide and comfortable for long trips of up to 6 hours. The River Stour Coracle is suitable for recreation, cruising and adventure, wild life observation etc, taking a good payload for river picnics with a passenger or dog. The cowhide is very tough and durable and you can beach the Coracle at a stony place without fear of making a hole in the bottom. The frame, seat and fittings for fishing are made from Ash wood which is cut from the tree by myself, the cowhide is prepared and cured by myself also. To build a coracle usually takes 1 month as they are made with extreme care and are very high quality - a coracle for life. Another good use for the Coracle is as a workboat for rivers, moats and lake maintainance. As a riverkeeper I use the River Stour Hide covered Coracle for these purposes as well as fishing. I also make Canvas covered coracles, both types are usually made to order. These Coracle types are recommended for general use and stability River Stour (pictured above), River Teifi, River Towy and River Taf (South Wales Coracles) & Shrewsbury type from the River Severn |
