New coracle event in Gainsborough/Constable country
on the River Stour at Bures on the Suffolk Essex Border
Bures is on the B1508 between Colchester and Sudbury,
and is a small picturesque town.
The event is to be held at the recreation ground about 1/4 mile out of
Bures on the Nayland Road look for a car park and recreation ground on
the right. The river is the far side of the ground. The
river is slow moving and very pretty, about a hundred yards downsteam
is Bures Mill (Not open to the public). Upstream is an easy paddle through
Bures town and under the bridge. The format of the event is to be finalised,
but as well as the usual races and water polo, there is space for a long
distance race .The area is worth a visit, with Sudbury, Dedham and Flatford
all on the River Stour.
Other interesting towns are Lavenham and Colchester and Ipswich

The event on the River Stour at Bures was aided by Dick
Mundy a Coracle Society Member, based in East Anglia. It was well attended
by the public who were entertained by 20 avid coracles, who aptly demonstrated
net fishing, coracle races and coracle paddling techniques to the on-lookers.
