The Shrewsbury MacMillan Coracle Challenge

The first Coracle Relay Race World Championship is taking place on the River Severn in Shrewsbury.
The event will consist of 8 heats with teams of 4 paddlers and a coracle and the winner of each plus fastest second places going through to semi-finals and then the final. Each team has paid an entry fee of £50.00 and has pledged to raise a minimum sponsorship of £300.00 with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The first heat will start at 4:30 pm. As well as the actual racing there will be entertainment for the supporters and racers in the form of street entertainers (jugglers and acrobats etc) there is a Pimms Bar, a Hog roast, tea and cakes, an ice cream stall and various children’s entertainment. Situated on the banks of the river Severn at the Pengwern Boat Club there are many good vantage points from which to watch all the action, spills and thrills. Last year at the inaugural "Coracle Challenge” £21,000.00 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. This year with a bigger and better event we hope to well exceed that figure.

The Mortimers Cross Regatta

Mortimers Cross, Lucton Herefordshire.
This event is free, and all are welcome. It includes the Millers Mile (a race against the clock involving running, coracling down rapids and probably getting wet) and the Coracle Society AGM (12 noon Saturday 21 June 2008).
There is also a fly fishing from a coracle event which is open to members only (unless you are a mate of Chris) on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Camping on site is only £3.00 per person per night.
Situated in the grounds of Mortimers Cross Mill which stretch for nearly a mile along the banks of the river Lugg; this is the ideal opportunity for a weekend, or longer holiday.

The Third Bures Coracle Regatta

From lunchtime onwards.
Held at Bures recreation ground on the River Stour, Free and everyone is welcome. Try out a coracle, get some tuition, and then enter the races, which curiously the children usually win (better power to weight ratio?).
Bures is a picturesque village just south of Sudbury in Suffolk and the event is organised by the River Stour Trust.

Annual Ironbridge Coracle Regatta Held at Dale End Park Ironbridge
This Coracle Regatta now holds an established place in the Ironbridge calendar attracting coraclers from all over the country. There will be sprint races, relays, the highly competitive coracle polo match and other daft games. Be prepared to get wet!
The Regatta is also a lovely day out, with stalls and activities and the chance to have a go yourself. You are welcome to bring your own coracle if you have one.

13 - 14 September 2008
Sudbury to the Sea (aka S2C)

A River Stour Trust event, primarily for canoeists, though any craft is welcome this is a trip from Sudbury in Suffolk, down the river Stour passing through Bures, Dedhamand Flatford (Constable Country) to the estuary at Cattawade. Because of hold ups at portages, a
coracle can do quite well at this providing the wind is in the right direction. It is however around 25 miles with an overnight stop half way so anyone who wishes to attempt this by coracle should be both experienced, and reasonably fit. Dave Nicoll does this trip by coracle
most years, and I am sure he would welcome other coraclers. There is no need for a boat licence for this event, as the £10.00 registration fee will cover this. The overnight stop is at Wissington, and camping there is £6.00, or there is local bed & breakfast available.
