The River Loughor in South Wales became polluted towards the end of the nineteenth century but in the previous century it was a noted salmon and sea trout river and recorded for its good quality fish that were carried on ponies to Swansea market. The photograph from about 1880, features ladies and gentlemen using coracles for recreation when net fishing had ceased about thirty years previously, note the large paddles.
