![]() Boyne style Coracle at Standedge Tunnel |
|||||
|
My coracle, a rather crude one based on the Boyne style,
is carried everywhere that my narrow boat goes, usually upside down on
the roof. In this way it covered over 1000 miles last year and this year
visited and travelled through the Pennines via the three and a half mile
tunnel at Standedge near Marsden in Yorkshire. It had to go inside the
boat for the passage as the clearance is extremely tight in places. The
photo shown here was taken as we waited for the westbound boats to arrive,
in a train towed by an electric tug. The water level here is 645 feet
above sea level and in the middle of the tunnel is 650 feet underground,
is this the highest or deepest that a coracle has been? |
